UK focus on grain and grass research

Working Groups

The working groups serve as a way to encourage people with similar interests and expertise within both the institutes and the universities to get together to share views, experiences and expertise, and to transfer these skills between laboratories, crops and research programmes. Monogram’s role is to foster and encourage such interactions, in order to make the best use of resources and expertise within the UK cereal and grass research. These working groups will raise the international profile of UK research within these areas, and establish a point of contact for international collaborative projects. The Tritigen COST initiative is an example of this.

The primary function of the Working Groups is to coordinate the research in their areas across the member institutions. They will also link with relevant research groups within the wider community in order

  • To develop and regularly update position papers
  • To develop accessible and state of the art resources
  • To avoid unnecessary duplication
  • To advise on best practise
  • To represent the UK in international forums
  • To prepare joint funding bids
There are five Working Groups:

WG1 Germplasm and markers
WG2 Physical genomics
WG3 Gene expression; transcriptomics; proteomics
WG4 Gene validation
WG5 Bioinformatics
