WG2 - Structural Genomics

Convenor: Robbie Waugh, SCRI

Participants
Meetings

To develop resources and capabilities for UK research in wheat, barley, forage grasses and oats

  • Create physical maps of BACs anchored to genetic maps for gene isolation
  • Establish comparative genome databases for access to data and resources

To enable a flow of research from models to crops

  • Establish Brachypodium as a new model system for temperate grasses
  • High throughput transformation for functional genomics
  • High density genetic map and BAC- based physical map
  • Complete genome sequence and genome database
  • Forward genetic capabilities
  • Promote uptake of resources in UK research community

Whole genome sequence for the species of interest will eventually become a reality. While working towards this, other resources are already available for exploitation.
